The Inland Revenue investigates approximately 70,000 tax payers per
year and in a very high percentage of cases achieve large settlements
which include tax, interest and penalties.
Revenue Prosecution for tax fraud are now more common than in previous
years and the courts can and will impose custodial sentences as well
as large fines.
Cases of suspected serious fraud are dealt with by the Revenue Special
Compliance Office (SCO) based in Edinburgh and Nottingham.
SCO regard serious fraud as being one or more of the following:
Profits under declared exceed £100K.
Documents
have been forged.
There
has been conspiracy to defraud.
A
certificate of disclosure is found to be false.
A
sub contractor certificate has been misused.
An
accountant, solicitor or tax commissioner is suspected of acting dishonestly.

if the SCO are involved. Investigations are about money - your money.
